Hello new guy and ELM 327 cable question:)

Post by Drei »

Hi, saying hello, I have been trolling around here for a while as I was pointed to you by a fellow FiatForum.com member.

I have the same cable, ordered it as this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELM-327-USB-1-4a- ... 2eb0de2e87
but I received the orange one instead, funny I plugged it into the USB only not the car and gave me a good test:)

When I plugged into the car nothing, no connection. Am I missing something?

I have the 2007 Bravo 1.9 JTD 16V. I may be selecting the wrong interface from the program? Any help is much appreciated it as I already messaged the seller (UK Seller) and told him that his cable is a fake and should be ashamed as itw as advertised as original. I am about to return it but would like to give this another go.

I have also purchased the Fiat convertor cables, the 3 yello green and red cables.

Should I head over to http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm an download the latest drivers? All I want is to get the car readings and reset the engine error code for the EGR Valve.

Should I leave the COM POrt speed to 9600 or bring it to 38400? So do I connect the ELM cable into the yellow cable then into the port or simply bang i into the car port without the adaptor cables? After which I connected the USB to laptop, switch car electrics on then fire up FiatECU do the test and try and make a connection?

To be honest if people purchased cables of eBay and they work, why can;t we have a sticky with the sellers that do sell the good ones. Should I return it and get hold of a 1.3 Blue cable version instead?

These are the alternate cables I could get:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELM-327-USB-1-4a- ... 2eb418e8c8

This one is £30 so... surely it must be the real deal?

Or fork out almost £100 for this?

Please check the following thread:

The problem with your interface seems to be the same.

Hi mate, I did look at that pretty extensively but I can't find any links to products that work without messing around, from what I saw there are different ones. I don't have a solder or something to test the ohms and not sure I want to mess opening the device up, besides I can post it back and I can get something else that does work. Don't mind paying more if it works properly.

Thanks mate and it looks like this seller is FiatECUSan approved.

Lovely, now to find out, if I purchase the full version FiatECUSan, do you get updates for life? Or it is a one time off?

You'd have to ask Yani about plans for the future really :)
As it stands at the moment though, updates are free - you just download them
