try entering any wrong PIN and see what happens.
PIN can be read with specialized tools through OBD or with programmer from body ECU. usually those who make keys also have equipment.

maybe BCM was replaced some time ago hence PIN from card isn't right.

you can always try by running some tests like turning on lights - if it allows to do it, then no SGW is present.

scan whole car and check for weird CAN bus errors. could be your cable or could be something on CAN bus network which prevents getting proxi config.

have you tried unplugging it and doing proxi alignment after that?

everytime you connect to module with MES it creates log file for this connection.
connect to "CAN Setup", disconnect and check your MES install folder with your proxi config. sometimes it might not create log, at least for me, so just repeat.

without further investigation it's hard to determine the cause: could be spike from car, could be faulty adapter, bad/loose USB port, laptop.

usually I try not to crank car with diagnostic plugged in when I know car battery is very weak.
