iOS tries to connect using CantieCar not ELM327

Hi Guys.
Trying to connect to the ABS ecu of a 2002 Alfa GTV V6 3.0 24V (Outside EU) using the iOS app and a ELM327 Wifi dongle. I can connect to the engine to ECU (Bosch Motronic ME 3.1) but when I try to connect to the ABS system (Bosch ABS 5.3) I get the message saying "Connect Adapater 1/Green etc etc". Then "Connection failed, communication protocol only possible with CantieCAR interface only". I thought when using the app and ELM327 dongle no adapters or rewiring were required.
