2003 punto airbag no comm / not on list of configured control units

Post by Fiat dad »

Hi, I have a 2003 punto 1.2 8v and have a problem with no comm with air bag module, power and ground ok, cables check ok for continuity and a not grounded, mes can not comm with module, in can set up there are 5 modules but no air bag module, I tried the proxi align but made no difference. I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to get the air bag module on to the can list ?

Which adapter are you using? Some Puntos require the 3 pin separate adapter cable as the air bag unit is NOT connected to the EOB 16 pin general diagnostics socket.

Thanks for the reply, I am using the kkl vag comm lead and the red adaptor which is the one the multiecuscan asks for.
I have rechecked the powers and grounds and the k line between the air bag module and obd connector all are good, powers and grounds at the obd port, all are good. I have also altered the vag comm interface to put pin 3 connect to pin 7 to remove the red adaptor but with no change. I have also swapped the airbag ecu for another s/h unit again no change.
I think I am left with two possibilities, original and s/h modules have the same fault or the multiecuscan has an issue, but I don't know anyone with a similar age punto to try the multiecuscan out on to see if it connects to the airbag module.
Not sure we're to go next ?? Peter

Sounds / looks like you have covered all the bases. Not sure what else to suggest.

One point, which I think you have covered but please double check. You said that you are using the VAG KKL interface? It is a known fact that some devices (especially air bag modules) do not like or communicate well with ELM units running in KKL mode. So for these VAG KKL interface must be used.

You could also try using an OBDLINK interface.
