Connection problems Fiat Punto MK2

Post by Rick_M »

Hi All,

I have problems with connecting to ECU’s of an Fiat Punto MK2 1.2 16V from 2001.
Hopefully you can help me with this.

Used setup:

Adapters:
ELM327 1.4 which is modified according to FAULTY ELM 327 INTERFACES DE-MYSTIFIED (READ HERE) topic
KKL VAG COM (Latency set to 1ms)

PC: Laptop with windows XP

Multiecuscan version: 2.8R1 Registered

What does work:
-ELM327 1.4 works perfectly on an Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTDm 16V, I can read every ECU.
-KKL VAG COM works on the Fiat Punto MK2 1.2 16V (so I set it to Punto ’99 1.2 16V in multi ecu scan) with high latency mode ON and then I can read the Bosch Motronic ME7.3H4 EOBD Injection ECU.

What does not work:
-Using ELM327 1.4 adapter to read out the Bosch Motronic ME7.3H4 EOBD Injection ECU of the Fiat Punto MK2 1.2 16V

First connecting attempt I get the following error message (I have Dutch version):
Connection Failed.
Een apparaat dat op het system is aangesloten, werkt niet. (translation: A device connected to the system does not work)
Check your cable and serial port settings.

Second connection attempt I get the following error message:
Connection Failed.
De toegang tot de com poort COM4 is geweigerd. (translation: Access to com port COM4 is denied)
Check your cable and serial port settings.

The same errors appear using the ELM327 1.4 adapter when I try to connect all other supported ECU’s

-Using KKL VAG COM adapter to connect to all other supported ECU’s (with or without adapter cable) does not work, connection is timed out.

Since the ELM327 1.4 Adapter does work perfectly on the Alfa Romeo 159 I do not expect this to be an driver problem.
The same for the KKL VAG COM adapter, since it does work on the Bosch Motronic ME7.3H4 EOBD Injection ECU I do not expect this to be an driver problem.
I tried lowering the latency settings of the ELM327 1.4 adapter but this had no effect.

Do you have an idea on how to solve this?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Rick.

Hi All,

Progress made today.

KKL Adapter works on Airbag when using the red adapter (adapter nr. 2), i was using adapter nr.3 because i thought KL 3 means KKL adapter + adapter nr.3 which is not, my mistake.
ABS Cant connect at this point, but is due to the car i think, dead ABS ecu.

Also i got the ELM327 1.4 working, but there is a trick to it.

If i connect the adapter and do a interface check (which is successful) en then try to connect to for example engine ecu i get the errors as listed before.
If i close multi ecu scan, disconnect ELM from car and laptop and connect to laptop, then to the car, start multi ecu scan and directly (without performing interface check) connect to any of the supported ecu's its works perfect without any problems.

Don't know if this is due to the car or the software, but at least this worked for me.
