Air Control Inhibition

Post by tobyrm1 »

Hi,

Alfa Romeo 147 1.9 16v 2005

I wonder if you can help. I have just blocked off my EGR valve with an EGR blanking plate. No error codes or EML but have not had it remapped out of the ECU.
Just wondering the desired air intake quantity is around 300mg/I and the air intake quantity is around 500mm/I at idle. I wonder if this is correct or not?
Also if I click up Air Control Inhibition it says Faulty system. Wonder if this is anything to do with blocking the EGR.

Thanks for you help in advance.

If you get no errors with the EGR blanked off then there is nothing further to do and you do not need the EGR mapped out of the ECU.

All you need to do it enjoy the generally better performance/driveability you will be getting.

Driven the car today. It still feels wonderful but the eml light has come on. Is it ok to ignore it if it doesn't bother me or will it cause problems with the engine management?

Thanks for your help!

I have no experience or knowledge of driving for extended periods of time with an EGR fault logged in the ECU. I've not heard of any issues but this is not a statement that it is OK to do so.

Another factor to consider is that EML is there to tell you of problems. If you drive with this on all the time the only way you can identify other more important errors is to regularly connect to the ECU with diagnostic kit and check for new and different fault codes.

I suggest you

1) get EGR mapped out
2) remove the EGR blanking plate and fit a restrictor plate
3) remove the EGR plate

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I was just gonna try it an see the improvements for a few months before shelling out on a remap. As long as it won't damage the car and I can see how it performs for a few months.

Thanks for your help.

Before opting for the EGR to be mapped out you should also try the official restrictor plate (bullet hole gasket). These only cost a few pounds/euros and appear to work quite will. I have one on my Croma 1.9 Multijet 150 engine.

Hi,

I was thinking of one of those but was a bit concerned it could still fill up the intake with soot!
