By KKL VAG com or interface, the controls are read glesen still using an older protocol.
e.g. My97 airbag or the M2.10.3 / 4 etc.

I know when I was starting 3-4 years ago I wanted to make myself ELM and VAG interface...
Some parts I could not find immediately... I had to order and to wait for them...
At the end I figured out that is easy to buy than to make it by yourself.
