looking to purchase and have a few questions

Post by mongoose88 »

Hello everyone, I have a 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia and was looking to get MES for it. I see that I can get the Multiplexed package and it comes with the CANtieCAR connection, will that eliminate the need for the other adapters? Would it be best to get just the ELM 327 connector and the 2 adapters? Im just looking for the smoothest and easiest connection and usage. Im new to Alfa and this software.

If you look here:

https://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx

Then search for Guilia you will see that for your car you only need and ELM/OBDLink interface and two additional adapters, A5 and A6.

With CANtieCAR then these two A5 and A6 connectors will/should not be required.

Suggest you read the info / differences on the MES home page regarding the REGISTERED vs MULTIPLEXED versions and license/usage.

If you are only planning to use MES on your car and not in a professional/workshop capacity then you should consider the price difference/affordability.

The Multiplex package will cost you 300+ whilst one of the others only 120.

Not sure in which country you are located but in the UK we have these packages available from one of the recommended distributors

I would always choose for a multiplexed version with an CanTieCar connector. Never had any issues with any connection.

I did read through it but was still slightly confused, thats why I posted the question. Thank you for clearing up that if I go with the CANtieCAR option then I won't need the other adapters. Im in the United States and it seems that the registered version seems good, yet the 2 companies in the states dont have any obd elm 327 adapters available right now. So for just a hair over $300 I can have the multiplexed one sent to me and only have to deal with one connection, instead of swapping adapters around mid programming.

Thank you for your response, Im definitely leaning towards that option as it seems the simplest to use. No cable swapping during programming and what not.

I actually use OBDLink-SX as opposed to ELM. Too many bad ELM devices out there and OBDLink-SX seems to be more reliable.

If you can afford it then go for the CANtieCAR. One other advantage with doing this is that the license is tied/keyed to the CANtieCAR Interface and not the laptop/PC. This means you can use the MES software and your CANtieCAR interface on ANY PC/laptop.

Can I ask here also about my car? I have purchased the mutliecu scan with yellow adapter being adviced on fiat forum it can scan my Fiat Panda 2014. But after doing all prliminary work and registering the program I can not see my model in the menu. Can you guide me how to be sure I will not damage my ECU when pressing scan? My goal is to read any extra codes that might show me the check engine light coming on and off every now and then. My car register is SL64RVR

You can not damage your ecu by pressing scan. If you click the wrong ecu MultiEcuScan will select the right one automatically

Can you do full proxy alignment with OBDLink-SX interface?
I couldn't complete it on '16 Giulia with generic Elm327 with gray and blue adapters and now I look for more reliable interface. Some modules were left undone but I still can connect to them and check for errors.
I want to choose between OBDLink-SX and Stardiag wich looks like tested and working.

I could do a full Proxy when I last tried some time ago. I have no recent experience of doing any Proxy work so can not offer any further info, especially with regards to OBDLink SX vs Scandiag.
