Missing parameters @ Alfa JTDm

Post by JS JTD »

Hi,

I've just downloaded the free version of FES and I have to admit it's quite a good looking and user friendly program.

Unfortenately I discovered a few days ago, not all engine parameters are present to read. The ones I am particurarly interested in are:
- start main injection (degrees to TDC)
- main injection duration (msec)

And of course there are also other pilot and post injections featured at the Multi-Jet that should be present.
I am driving a 2006 Alfa 147 JTDm 16v with EDC16C39.

My question: are these extra parameters present in the full version, if yes, I'll purchase the full program immediately, if no, will they be there in the future?

Thanks in advance!

Hi these 2 parameters are not available for EDC16C39/CF4 ECUs.
They are only available in the EDC16/CF3 ECUs.

That is a real pity!

Yesterday I noticed the absence of another signal; the output voltage of the MAF (airflow).

Is that also not availabe in the future ?

Is the absence of "MAF signal voltage in mV" parameter (in case of EDC16c39) caused by some EDC16 limitations or it is thing which will be corrected in 3.31 release?
Obtaining of this parameter reading could be very useful because of direct measurement of efficiency of particular air intake systems, boost map values and overboost valve map values...

MAF in JTDm engines is different than old JTD MAFs. Output parameter of the MAF is not voltage, like in old ones, but duty cycle (similar to pulse width modulation), thats why you cant get MAF voltage parameter in EDC16C39.

Yes, available parameter is "Intake air quantity signal period" given in [ms].
You remember our discussions with conclusion that the voltage output from MAF is the best measure of air flow, efficiency of air intake system and turbo, assessment of values in boost map and N75 map, etc... How to analyze mentioned items by use of "Intake air quantity signal period"?
Btw, are all MAFs very similar, but only processing of signals (analog?) is different in case of EDC15 MAFs nad case of EDC16c39 MAF?

C39 MAF is newer generation, I think HFM6, and old ones are HFM5. It is not only different signal processing, it is completely new design. But on the outside it looks the same as the old one. It even fits in the same housing.

MAF output voltage was a good sign in EDC15 because there were certain problems in the diagnostics. Some ECUs displayed wrong airflow number after 3000rpm, other displayed values in kg/h instead of mg/inj... that made diagnostics hard to do.
Another good thing about checking MAF voltage is that you can see how close to the limit are you.

With pulse width modulated MAFs you have another measure. Time period.

This is the linearisation table in the ECU:

Code: Select all

MAF linearisation (57x1)

MAF linearisation(time)/kg/h

		us	kg/h
		83.29	644
		111.71	537
		132.28	468
		151.28	411
		169.00	361
		187.00	315
		205.00	274
		223.00	237
		241.00	204
		259.00	174
		277.00	148
		295.00	124
		313.00	104
		331.00	86
		349.21	71
		367.39	58
		385.71	47
		404.00	38
		422.60	30
		441.21	23
		460.00	18
		479.00	14
		498.10	10
		521.89	6
		535.50	3
		550.28	1
		570.28	-4
		590.21	-8
		610.71	-14
		628.21	-20
		645.49	-27
		666.71	-38
		666.78	-38
		666.89	-38
		666.99	-38
		667.10	-38
		667.21	-38
		667.28	-38
		667.39	-38
		667.49	-38
		667.60	-38
		667.71	-38
		667.78	-38
		667.89	-38
		667.99	-38
		668.10	-38
		668.21	-38
		668.28	-38
		668.39	-38
		668.49	-38
		668.60	-38
		668.71	-38
		668.78	-38
		668.89	-38
		668.99	-38
		669.10	-38
		669.21	-38
It is a bit different, but the main thing is, that at period 83usec (0.083msec) the flow is 644kg/h and that is the maximum flow it can measure.
The higher the time period, the lower the airflow...

Thank you TribesMan - it is very useful explanation (as we expext from you :D ). I am very interested to register this parameter in driving...
