can't connect to airbag via pin3

Post by kv99 »

hi all,
I hope this was not asked before (i did not find an answer in the forum :o )

As described in some messages I read in this form, I purchased a VW -KKL COM cabel and
put a switch in it.
the switch goes EITHER
to port 7
OR
to port 3
OR
to ports 1,9,12 (all together)

I can
connect to engine, by switch to port 7
connect to ABS, by switch to ports 1,9,12
BUT I am not able to
connect to Airbag when switched to port 3

I am pretty sure that the switch to port 3 works, but as said I get no connection.
Any ideas ?
Could the Airbag ECU be broken ? (The reason for doing all this, is to reset my airbag light)

Many thanx
kalle

Hello

I have the same Alfa Romeo 156
In this model, the airbag is on pin 3, that's right
should also be able to get a connection.

Either you have a cable fault in the control unit or control device

Try again in the laptop the power settings for maximum performance
to ask. I've heard from some friends that your connection problems
disappeared thereafter.

Try again

Hi Eddy,
do you mean the laptop power options like for battery and screen etc. ?
The laptop I use is a rather old windows xp one with not a lot of cpu power.
But as said, I easily get connection for engine and ABS.
So I check the cable again and HOPE the airbag ECU is not broken.
Thanx for your answer
Kalle
P.S. I also sent you an PM but I was not sure you read those, that's why I post here again.

Hi Eddy, all,

I tested again with a (much) faster laptop.
Same result: Can get to Engine and ABS but not to Airbag
Checked the VAG Kable again. It should be correct
Here are some pics.

Have you tried to use the interface in different car?

The kkl cable and the modifications seems to be ok if the switch works. Switch/connection can be easily tested with multimeter. Set the meter to peep mode and connect to meter between pin 3 and J2 pin (round red dot in the picture). If meter peeps in pin 3 position then switch works.

Are you from Finland or Sweden? (Your name is).

Hi manu,
maunu wrote:Have you tried to use the interface in different car?
No have no other car to test it

I tested that already and it "peeps" :D
What I tested also, is to switch to pin3 and did the "interace testing within the multiecuscan-settings" and it works (get responses)

No from Germany....My name is Kalle

I tried different speeds (bit/per seconds) today, did also not help

Here is my question:
What does actually happen when pressing F'11- Scan (not a connect) ? Will this scan operation scan everything OR only the
selected system (engine, abs, airbag) on the left ?

scan brings the following results :
switch to pin 7 / engine selected - it finds the the bosch m1.5.5 (ts98) module
swith to pin 3 / airbag selected - it finds nothing
switch to pin 1,9,12 / ABS selected - it also finds nothing, but I can connect to Bosch ABS 5.3
and in some combination (either switch on 7 or on 1,9,12 with ABS selected) it finds an unknown climacontrol (what I can not connect to because it is not listed at systems)

I hope my Airbag ECU is not broken, and this is the reason why the airbag light is on.
But would I get a scan (F11)-response if my switch is on pin 3 if the airbag ECU is broken ?

thanx

Hello Kalle

As I've already written, your conversion should work with your KKL.
Therefore, as Maunu also writes! It possible to try another
vehicle
You also might want me to send your KKL and I would test it for you again.
I am sending you a PM but to

It is possible that your airbag module is not supported.
Some of the Alfa 156s with 1 or 2 airbags use an old airbag module which is not supported by Multiecuscan.
