Hello,
On the supported vehicle list i saw that i needed an adapater cable 3 for almost every function with my car (grande punto 1.4 8v). Where can i buy this adapter cable, i couldn't find it on the site ? Is it also possible to make this cable from the standard cable that comes out of the elm ? Since all the options require adapter cable 3.
I now have a standard ELM 1.4 cable with no pins modified, i was also wondering what happens if i use this standard cable on my punto. Will it result in a simple connection failure, or could it damage my car ?
Adapter cable 3
Re: Adapter cable 3
You can use the interface as it is on the car with no risk of damage.
You'll just be limited to the systems which are supported by an ELM327 without any adaptors (engine, gearbox, ABS, electric steering).
To access other systems you'd need the adaptor though.
It's not ideal modifying your existing ELM cable, as if you do you'll only be able to access the systems that need the A3 cable, and you then won't be able to access the other systems I listed above.
A good place to start looking for the adaptors is the Distributors list:

If you're in the UK, Gendan sell them individually here:
