Hi everybody
I am hoping one of the members can help pinpoint the problem with my ELM 327 .I have looked on site at various fixes such as removing & changing resistors etc but the pc boards are different to mine which should be the latest version and when tested comes up withELM 327 v1.4 and all tests OK
When I connect it the dash goes off and I can only access the engine but if I only push the ELM plug into the OBD socket enough to make contact then the dash stays on and I get access to engine-dash-body & service
So some of the pins on the ELM are not making contact when only half pushed in but this is allowing me full access So it works when it shouldent & wont work when it should and its the same if I use the ELM + Green adapter to connect,
I bought the whole package from GENDEN last month so it should a good one I did contact them regarding the problem & they offered to test repaire or replace the ELM but as it tests OK now I think a replacement might be exactly the same so I need to be able to tell the what to fix,
I ran Fiatscan on the car today and sen reports so I might get feedback from that
Cheers RAA

The problem can also be from your OBD connector on the car
no pain, no gain

I understood that if you halfpush the elm you got problems...if completely plugged in it works for every module...

Thanks for replies radu_gostan & EnIgMa
Sorry for any confusion with my previous post regarding exactly what happens when I use the ELM on my Doblo hopefully the following explanation is better,
When I plug the ELM fully into the OBD socket on the car the dash goes off fuel light flashes & ABS light comes on I get working access to engine only.
To get access to other modules I have to do the following
Switch on ignition then slowly push the ELM plug into the OBD socket at the same time keeping an eye on the red power light on the ELM.
As soon as the light comes on stop pushing & hopefully the ELM power light is on & the dash is still on If the dash goes off then I have pushed it in to far & need to start again.
Once I have achieved this I then connect the computer and have access to Engine-Dash-Body etc & can make adjustments
I know this sounds fiddly but I can do this quite easily every time but that dosent solve the problem with the ELM I dont think the OBD socket on the car is faulty but it soon will be if I keep having to connect this way every time
Cheers RAA

Ok, now i got it.
Check both sockets, on elm and on the car..
It seems a "simple" electrical issue.
ps.
it's strange that you got problems on dashboard just plugging in the elm device...
Check for short circuit/fault connection/cable...
