Stilo 1.8 16V engine can't connect

Post by zitbag »

Hello!
I'm not able to connect to the Hitachi unit of my Stilo 1.8 (2003). Roughly 1 out of 10 connection attempts is successful, but the connection is dropped within 1-2 seconds.

Using VAG 409.1 cable, and having the same problem on lines PIN 1, 3 and 7.

Check all the interface settings Latency and com port see ''how to use''.
it should connect ok the program does work on a 1.8 stilo 16v as I can
connect to all the different ECU's with a 1.3a Elm327 and the
Vag 409.1 interface.

My problem does still persist with 2.6.1 , moreover it is worse now: I can't connect to the Hitachi unit at all.
Other symptoms:
- Can't connect to any of the units (engine, abs, airbag, ...), however, when I try to connect to ABS, I'm getting EBD failure/ABS failure/ASR failure blinking on the display until I disconnect.
- "Scan" also evokes EBD/ABS/ASR error but no unit is recognized.
I made an attempt to connect to ABS (this time choosing model Lybra 1.8). It connected to some Lucas ABS and Multiecuscan received some weird data (for example, wheel speeds seemed OK on all but the right-rear wheel, that reported 0 m/s continously) -- and I also received the EBD/ABS/ASR failure.

On the other hand, the same setup works well with Fiat Panda 1.2 dualogic.

Is there any possibility to start logging to stdout (or similar)? I would appreciate some more informative error message than "Cannot connect to ECU".

setup: VAG 409.1 cable, swichable 3 or short wired 1-7-9 , WinXP.

If it works on another car then the problem is in your car.
Problem with the grounds on the OBD connector, low battery, noise on the data lines caused by some connector (probably in the engine compartment).

Okay, you're probably right (thence I'll try to re-check the things you enumerated), but how can then Fiat Examiner Smart work with the same car?

So there's no possibility to some verbose logging, what's going on behind the curtains?

I had the same on Stilo when I first check the FES before register. Separating K lines (not bridged them) solved the connection with ABS, Steering ( not Airbag).
The VCM in Examiner is way far more complex so no need to compare. The Yani's success to put Examiner software on dongle interfaces is already great job.

Hi all, partial success: I was able to connect ABS via VAGKOM. Hitachi with VAGKOM still suxx, but now works with ELM327! :) Thanks, nice tool!
