Menu button/steering wheel controls
Menu button/steering wheel controls
Hi all, new to multiecuscan, I have replaced the head unit in my wife’s 500x to a pioneer Apple play, the mileage started flashing but everything was working as it should, I purchased multiecuscan and the relevant cables to do a proxy alignment, which went fine but now the menu button and the radio controls on the steering wheel no longer work? Any help would be much appreciated
Re: Menu button/steering wheel controls
Before I go/say further I'm not an expert nor have done a head unit replacement on my 500X.
On a factory uConnect system then the uConnect and body computer understand each other. Many/some of the vehicle setting are transferred from the dash board menu system to the uConnect menu system. This means that without an additional control unit many uConnect system/vehicle setting get disconnected from the body computer with other brands of head units.
I understand that there are specialised head unit interface units that allow/restore the relevant functions.
The steering wheel controls talk to the Body Computer (BCM) and the BCM sends/relays these to the uConnect.
All this suggest to me that:
1) Your new head unit does not recognise the steering wheel commands
2) The commands are not getting through due to the missing interface that handles the vehicle menus etc.
3) There is a Proxy setting that will resolve your issue
With 3) hopefully somebody far more experienced will be able to respond.
NOTE! I only post what I have is to say that (certainly with Fiat) NOTHING is Plug and Go. Actually more "Plug and Pray".
Gone are the days we can just swap in and out units like Radios, ABS, ECUs, etc. as these are no all tightly integrated and coded into the vehicles DNA even down to exact VIN numbers.

Thank you for the reply
Re: Menu button/steering wheel controls
thanks for the reply,i fitted the interface kit for the head unit, the steering wheel controls worked fine until i did the proxy alignment (to stop the mileage from flashing)
but after that the steering wheel controls stopped working even though the proxy went ok,will have to remove the head unit and check the wiring, maybe wrong patch lead maybe?

Re: Menu button/steering wheel controls
Did you save the original Proxy data? This may be stored in one of the MES logs associated with Proxy function?
You could try reloading the original Proxy data and see what happens?
I don't know the details and working of Proxy but it could be that when you changed the head unit and the controls were working and the odometer flashing was the BCM was just noticing 'a change' and prompting for a Proxy alignment because it saw a change. Putting the old data back may satisfy the BCM that action has been taken?

Re: Menu button/steering wheel controls
a lot of interface will able to stop flashing km, they have a procedure to stop it like the procedure to learne control of volume+,- skip ecc.. if you do de proxy with connected interface maybe erase the module and stop workin steering controlalmal wrote: ↑03 May 2024, 21:46 thanks for the reply,i fitted the interface kit for the head unit, the steering wheel controls worked fine until i did the proxy alignment (to stop the mileage from flashing)
