Replacing steering torque sensor

Post by yolos »

Hello,

i want to replace the steering torque sensor (C1002 fault pops up randomly), but unfortunately i don` t have the proper steering sensor tester (f.x.: http://www.mte.net/tester-for-steering-sensors)
What i would like to ask is, if it is possible to calibrate the new sensor and set it to position zero using the MES.

One more question: If the torque sensor will not be calibrated, is it possible to drive the car? I mean, what problems could be caused by a wrong calibrated torque sensor?

Thank you!

MES should have possibility to calibrate steering angle sensor.
To have 100% answer I need basic infos from your car.

I advise calibration but if you do not do it than you will after some period probably need to change that new sensor. And sensors are not cheap.

Just one example. When you put new tyres on the wheels you need also calibration. If you do not do it you will after some time destroy the tyres.

hi,

my car is a 2009 Grande punto t-jet.

Never did a calibration after putting new tyres and they were/are just fine. But i always do wheel alignment.

It should do the Grande from 2009.

The example that I wrote about tyres... I did not expressed myself good...
I thought on the balance maschine - not on the laptop with MES and calibration.
Every tyre should be balanced...
So i recommend calibration for steering angle sensor...

Best time to calibrate the sensor is right after wheel alignment before moving the steering wheel.

hello,

the torque sensor was replaced and unfortunatelly the torque sensor calibration does not work for me. When i execute it, I get an out of range message.
The position sensor calibration works just fine.

Right now, the power steering is light in one direction and heavy in the other :(

Hi,

I have the same problem with my Mito : change position/torque sensor and only possible to calibrate position sensor, not torque sensor.
Now direction is light to the left and hard to the right

Any solution ?
