I have a fiat stilo JTD 1.9 and over the last few months it's had electrical gremlins. Lights staying on, flat battery, error messages etc etc
I found the problem - there were slugs (Yes really!) that have got inside the body computer and shorted it out.
I've been to a breakers yard and got a replacement body computer from exact same model. I've plugged it up, but I'm getting 'Car security failure' and the Radio is asking for a code. It wont start because of this.
I've bought an ELM 327 (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201357279123) with all the cables and using the Free version of MultiEcuScan.
All the windows drivers are up to date and it has installed correctly. If I run 'test' it says: This interface is compatible with ELM327 1.5! Should connect propety with all CAN modules. I can connect ok to the Engine system but thats it. What I really want to do is a proxi alignment? I can't get CAN info as it says: Connection Failed ELM > ECU Please check the Interface Settings or Cable Connections. I've tried plugging it in with just ELM327 and then all different coloured cables - no joy
Can you brainy people help answer these:
1. Will proxi alignment FIX the Car security failure on the dash and let me start the car? - If I buy the Full/Registered MES
2. Can I get around the stereo asking for a code via MES (As I lost the code)
3. Will my keyfob unlock/lock like it did before after a proxi alignment?
4. Is my ELM 327 interface faulty? It says it's Modified, so I presume this means they fixed the resitor issue.
5. Can I even do a proxi alignment with ELM 327 or do I need VagCom KKL interface?
I really don't want to pay for something that wont fix my problem as I'm sure you can appreciate!
Hope someone can help me! My car's collecting dust!

Re: At witts end! - body computer problems
Have you tried e-mailing support@multiecuscan.net to see if the program is designed to do what you want. They should also be able to advise what the response of a correctly functioning but unregistered installation should be.
I use a registered copy with a suitably modified PIC based "ELM327" on an Alfa 1.9 JTDm. At first most of the modules were U/S but after attacking the unit with a soldering iron as per various forums everything started working. However, I haven't done a body computer swap.
As for the radio, I suspect getting a FIAT dealer to get the code is probably the way forward.
Regards, Paul
