Hi,
My problem is as follows:
I bought a 2002 Stilo of a friend who's had it from new. He said one day the remote just stopped unlocking/locking the car. As far as I can see on the Internet, this is quite common.
I have a fully functioning ELM327 and a registered MES so I thought that it will be very simple to just reassign the fob.
I was wrong. When I get a message saying that I will have 15 seconds to program a new fob I press Y and then I get a message telling me to hold any button on the fob for more than 3 seconds. Tried with all 3 buttons for far more than 3 seconds and nothing happens. LED flashes but nothing happens on MES. I can only get out of the procedure by pressing Esc and then I get something like Status:UNKNOWN.
The amount of added remote controls is 0 (in the diagnostics screen).
Can anyone tell me what to do? Maybe I missed some steps in the procedure but I was carefully reading the instruction and I thought everything was done according to it...
I would appreciate any help!

Re: Unable to re-assign central locking fob (Stilo)
As I can see you are doing fine...
Just try to hold any button on remote control until software tells you that remote control is stored.
Do not just press it for 3 seconds and release it. Keep button pressed until software tells you to use next key.
I did this procedure so many times and only problems that I had was bad battery, so I always have few of them spare...

Appreciate your reply but I tried many things and still cannot go further with this.
I took apart the remote, cleaned it and checked if it broadcasts on 434MHz. It does so it's not a problem with the radio.
I also disconnected the battery for a long time but no result.
Finally, I experimented with different versions of FES/MES and still nothing.
Message to press a button for 3 seconds and it's stuck. Even if I'm holding a button for 30 seconds nothing happens.
The remote I have is the one that came with the car and it used to work with it. MES shows 0 programmed remotes. Is it possible that someone deleted this one from the computer and now it doesn't want to add? Is there a solution for it if this is the case?

No, I do not think that someone deleted remote control from body ECU. It just happens after some years and it is normal to happen.
As far as I know you can not delete remote by MES/FES. If you want to delete it you need to programme the other (or new) remote control.
Try with the new battery. That is cheapest way to start. Inside should be CR2032 battery as far as I can remember. If does not work, than find somewhere on internet eLearn CD of Fiat Stilo. There you have electronic schematic for remote control system and then star to check part by part of installation until you find the problem...
