Beginner needs help with windows settings/drivers

Post by ContactGT »

I have 2 USB cable/interfaces: A USB VagCom cable/interface (Think I bought it as an ELM327) and an OBD-II usb cable/interface.

On my old XP laptop the cables are recognised and multiECUscan can find the interface. I have the cable set to Com4, but multiECUscan finds the interface on Com3 which is a bit strange, but it works. The baud is set to 9600. This cable worked in my 156 2.0 JTS and works in my 159 1.9JTDm on the old laptop.

On my new windows 8 laptop, the cable is recognised and appears in the control panel with exactly the same name as on XP - "USB Serial Port (Com4)". The power LED lights up on the interface cable, but 'Scan for interfaces' simply finds nothing on the new laptop, but works perfectly on the outgoing WinXP laptop.

I have turned down the baud setting to 9,600 from the 19,200 that it defaulted to so the settings appear to match WinXP perfectly.

I have tried changing it between Com4 and Com1, but no joy.

I found some 'Vag-Com' software that tests the ports too and it reports "Port Status: OK, Interface: Not found"

I have tried unsuccessfully all the driver palava here: http://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/supp ... on-windows

What settings do I need to change on the Windows 8 laptop please??
Help!!

On my laptop with XP system I have all ".Net_Framework" version because different interfaces need different versions of ".Net_Framework", so you will definitely need for you new Win 8 system...

Must be the only thing I didn't mention! I have .net 3.5 installed already. The multiECUsoftware works just fine, it just can't find the interface on the port!

So you need to check drivers and com port settings.
In "Advance Settings for COM?" put "Latency Timer" on 1 (not more).
Also keep in mind that some intefraces working only on older Win systems...
