Alfa 156 from 98. I bought this VAG cable
http://www.ecufix.com/shop/index.php?ma ... oduct_info& cPath=1&products_id=182
Its a USB ISO OBD-II / VAGCOM / AlfaDiag KKL Interface [182]. For my 98 model 156.
Bought a registered version of Multiecuscan. Connected to my laptop USB port. Testing the interface shows all ok as Com3. When I try to connect to the ECU I get the "Unable to connect to ECU" error. I have spent hours searching the formus for a solution.
Any help or tips would be most apprecited

Hi,
Can you give us few more details about your car (engine, diesel, petrol)?
Did you test your interface from "MES > F9 (settings) > Interface > Test"?
Can you paste here your report?
Did you installed for right drivers?
Try this one: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Did you test your interface with other software (like AlfaDiag)?
Can you give more details about your PC/ laptop?

Its a 98 model Alfa 156 with the 1.8ts petrol engine
Yes I have tested the interface from MES. It finds the interface on my car through my USB port assigned to Com3. Why would I need a driver when it finds the cars interface with no probs? The problem is it will not connect to my ECU. I am choosing ECU M1.5.5 wich is correct for my car.
I have not tried Alfadiag as it apears impossible to find to downloead.
I am using an Asus laptop with Windows 8
About to give up actually

Re: Another "Cant connect to Ecu" problem.
Maybe VAG interface does not work correctly with Win 8. I do not know I did not test it.
Or maybe VAG interface is faulty. I do not think so but everything is possible.
You can try to connect to other ecu, like airbag or abs. you need adapters or you need to modify your VAG interface...
