Ferrari support?

Post by Mozella »

I've wanted a Ferrari for longer than I care to admit. Next week I'm trading my Alfa Spider on a used Ferrari 360. multiecuscan has done a wonderful job saving me lots of time and money with both my Alfa and my Fiat Grande Punto. It has to be the the best value for money item you can buy if you own either of these cars.

I was shocked to find out that the diagnostic equipment for my Ferrari is worth more than both my Alfa and Fiat combined!! I suppose if I think I'm rich enough to be a Ferrari owner then I should be rich enough to hire someone else to check the error codes.

I know the DIY Ferrari market is narrow, but plenty of enthusiasts would pay many times the cost of the Fiat/Alfa/Lancia version of multiecuscan if it would work (even partially) on the Ferrari system.

Is there no hope for me?

Well I'm thinking that there will be hope for you in the future......but when is a different question.

I have no knowledge of Yani's long term business and direction plans but I think we can safely say he is addressing as many Fiat and Alfa models as he can.

It could be that Ferrari or Maserati would be a logical "Italian Vehicle" that may be on his radar. However if F or M was on his radar then it would be in the older models. There is little or no business value (IMHO) in addressing more current F & M models as owners of these cars can afford to get them serviced and maintained in official dealerships. In addition Yani will most probably be having to pay money to officially obtain the necessary communication data.

HOWEVER - remember that standard OBD and OBDII is supported not only by Fiat/MultiECUScan and plenty of other software on the internet.

With OBDI & OBDII you will have basic and generic engine/drive chain support. Beyond OBDI/OBDII basic support then we are into Manufacturer specific support.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Actually there is quite a few folks, especially in the USA, interested in reading their Ferrari error codes even if they don't actually do much (if any) DIY work on their cars. But I can understand the reluctance to spend a lot of time writing a program which may not be a good return on investment, especially since the "good stuff" codes are protected by a double secret Ferrari encoded shroud of mystery and kept out of the dirty hands of guys like me by the very steep price of the required hardware/software.

But if I can read the generic stuff, I would like to. Unfortunately, it's not immediately obvious to me how I can get multiecuscan to read the basic OBD codes output by my upcoming Ferrari. I have a Ferrari factory bulletin which says: "In order to comply with OBDII standard SAE J1962 an extra ground pin must be added to the existing OBD II connector located under the dashboard on the below mentioned vehicles: " . The list includes the 360 Maranello; easy enough.

But once I make the connector compliant, how do I get multiecuscan to show the codes?
