ALFA GTV 2L V6 TURBO

Post by gevi »

I bought an ALFA GTV 2L V6 TURBO (model 10 november 1998) with 16-pin plug, motronic engine management Bosch 0261203869, Bosch motronic ignition management 0227400232, airbag TWR 60664500, 46479194 Bosch ABS, Air Conditioning Sanden D7V16.
I cannot connect to any of these elements with my OBDKEY v1.4 or ELM 327 or KL.
Each time I got this message: "3-pin connection". I tried all possible connections available with Multiecuscan. I have already connected to these vehicles ALFA 156.159, BRERA, FIAT SEDICI without issues.
Could you add support for this vehicle, or tell me how to connect.
Please Yani could you give me an answer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

hello, I have the same trouble, in the same car, with the same code!

Did you found any solution?

My car is a Gtv 1999 V6 TB with 16 pin obd connector!

What happens when you select "Yes I have 3 pin connector"?
Does it connects to ECU?

Nope, absolutely no. 30 seconds of "Connecting to ECU" and then "ERROR check your cable - ecu connection"

1) Tried scan for modules option?

2) Option Show "Please connect Adapter." message before connecting is disabled?

1) yes: on PIN 7 (engine) not found.

On pin 1-9 (abs + clima) found both, ABS Bosch 5.3 and Harrison Climate Control. Works perfectly.

On Pin 13 (should be? not remember well) found TRW Airbag (60664500). Also this works perfectly.

2) Yes. I've tried in both ways. After your reply I've tried to disable it: same thing.

NB: I have TWO KKL VAG: one with FTDI CHIP, and the second with WCH340 by WinChipHead (the chinese company that manufactures it)
Both works like a charm!!!! But NONE OF THEM can connect with PIN 7 - Engine on the GTV OBD port.

Of course, all the tests up here, are made with the FTDI CHIP.

NB2 The WCH340 Chip is fantastic, it does the SAME WORK of the FTDI: more people says that it can't connect, it's a crap.
Bullshits: the only reason because it can't work it's a factory error: inside the OBD Adapter PIN 4 AND PIN 5 (signal ground and vehicle ground) ARE NOT CONNECTED!!!
It's sufficient take a soldering iron and link these two pins.

(I'm writing this only for punctualize)

Well Jonnhy, sorry if you dont understan some, but my english is very poor:

1) I bought a VAG CH340 also and not get connection too, yet...

2) If you to test pin 7 on vehicle connector with a meter, there is voltage?

3) Just tried AlfaOBD?

4) What is the model of engine control unit? According AlfaOBD (and MES) the mojoity needs a 3-Pin connector. I think that this issue is because this model to be a transition from Fiat 3-Pin to OBD 16-Pin.

Good Luck!

Oh doesn't matter, my English is worse than your ;-)

1) WITH A TESTER, setted in continuity mode, check if there is ZERO ohm resistance between PIN 4 AND PIN 5. ;-)

2) I've not yet checked this, will be the next try: to this point, also for me must be missed link between OBD female and K line of the ML4.1
I can't explain to me HOW THE FUCKING CABLE COULD BE BROKE! But I'll check soon...

3) not yet. I've discovered just now that this software supports ML4.1

4) NO. Absolutely!
Models 2000 v6 tb until 05/1998 are with 3pin connectors, one of that is near the Bosch ML 4.1 on the left of passenger seat.
from 06/1998 started the II series production, thats has the 16 pin OBDII female on the left of the steering, inside the fuses box.
Through this interface in the II series like mine, ON PIN 7 there is K line for engine, ON PIN 1/9 there is CLIMATE CONTROL AND ABS, and on PIN 3 you can access to TRW AIRBAG MODULE.
Spyder versions have also a module for electric roof, but I don't know where it communicates...

1) Will be? My Marea uses 3-pin.

2) I dont know, but everything is possible...

3) ...

4) [ops... mojoity = majority] so, MES and AlfaOBD only refers to 3-Pin for ML4.1. Maybe not supported in these softwares...

1) if 3-PIN adaptor links just to the disconnected GROUND PIN on KKL... will be!!

2) I've tried just now with ALFAOBD... NOTHING!!!! and other pins with M.E.S. works perfectly! now I dismount the ML4.1 and I check cable! The pin of K line is on the SERVICE MANUAL OF GTV/SPIDER (1700 pages  )

3)

4) MES has EVEN THE 98' version listed in car's list! and 98' M.Y. have ALL the 16 PINS OBD.
However the ECU is the SAME IDENTICAL, only connector change on II series GTV/spider
