Odometer scam detected by multiecuscan?

Post by zadintuvas »

Hi, I've recently bought a 2002 Fiat Stilo and I thought I'd check it with multiecuscan. When checking ECU I found that odometer value differs a lot from instrument panel value. Could this indicate a scam?

sorry for disappointing you but for me this looks like scam.
someone did take of the instrument clock and did put around 100 000 km lower walue then it was before.
This is comon thing for all JTD models including Alfa, Fiat and Lancia vehicles...

But you do not have to worry too much because I have seen on one Stilo and on the clock swas something like 185 000km and on the engine ECU it was something like 500 000km…
and it was running just fine... ;)

Had the same problem on my Alfa GTV 2.0Ts -97.

Dash milage reported: 111614 km
MES milage reported: 160206,0 km

I drove the car for another month and checked again

Dash milage reported: 112055 km
MES milage reported: 160844,7 km

In one month:
Dash: 441 km
MES: 638,7 km

638,7 / 441 = 1,448
160844,7/112055 = 1,435

Pretty much the same! My conclusion is that my car is not clocked, but there is a conversion factor problem either in the ECU or in MES.

And 160206 / 111614 = 1.4354

This is not the first time differences like this have been reported, not only on dash odometer but also on body computer and ecu values.

I'm wondering if what we are seeing is some form of car module configuration issues associated with gearbox / abs / tyre size factors.

The point I'm making is that distance and speed data is but a simple pulse from the gearbox final drive, abs system or other road distance signal.

In the UK when in doubt I use a stop watch and the 100m motorway markers on the hard shoulder (16 = 1.6km = 1mile) to verify speed and distance. For speed only then Sat Nav is very accurate.

a not scamed car wil;l present a diff of 500 to 1500 km ( maybe more between ecu odometer and dash one. this occurs on the fact : dash got it from ABS ( real diameter of wheels), respect to ECU that have count based on a fixed wheel diameter. If the ecu is changed (new) it will have km started from zero ( not on all types of CAN architecturals - on some the net will take the bigger value- depending on Body level of mastering)
