Odometer different value in ecu and dashboard odometer

Hi all,

New to forum and to multiecuscan.

I have question about odometar value there are difference in it.

Car is Fiat grande punto 2008 1.3 mjt

Picture below show values.

Image

On dashboard show 322 754 km.

What is real km of car?

I red on forum what user alfa156sarajevo said in some topic:
For example (#1):
On the dashboard there is 100 000 km.
In the engine ECU should be approximately 98 000 km.
Deference should be maximum 3% between those two counters.
If no one has changed odometer on dashboard, in the engine ECU in option for "last programming" should be 0 km.

But if someone wants to change odometer in dashboard, and we are going to take same data in example #1, lets say we will put 30 000 km less then before, we are going to have next data:
On the dashboard there is 70 000 km (100 000 – 30 000 = 70 000 km).
In the engine ECU should be approximately 98 000 km (as before).
In the engine ECU in option for "last programming" should be 100 000 km.
Then it should be 241 750 km and not 322 754 km on dashboard. Can some explain me how to check for real km of car.

It is pretty common to see different miles/km in the Odometer and the engine ECU and other units (where recorded)

I do not think that anybody has come up with a reason for these differences.

It has been suggested that the differernces are down to internal conversion errors between miles and km / km and miles.

I believe that the vehicles odometer is alway correct (unless tampered with) and taken as the legal value.

On some models the "delivery miles/km" can be reset by the dealer during the PDI process but for them to be able do this then the odometer reading has to be less than a limit value.

in which more systems except engine i can check odometer values?

On your Punto then only the Engine ECU, Dashboard and Service,

So if dashboard value is change to match value from Engine ECU is it recorded in "last programming" in ecu?

The "Odometer at Last Programming" shows the odometer reading when the control unit was last programmed. Programmed here basically means and engine ECU update/code changed.

You won't be able to change the dashboard odometer value to match the engine ECU as you can not lower the dashboard odometer value. You can only increase it. Also attempting to to set 999,999 and hoping the value will wrap to 000,000 so you can then set nnn,nnn will not work.

I suggest you just live with values.

You did not say if you have had the car from new or know its history. Could be that the dasboard was changed/swopped with another working one with a higher mileage at some point in time.

I bought used car and i don't know history of car.

Okay if i understand you correct for example if car ecu map was changed, because ecu is updated or reprogrammed, it will show last programming km the ecu odometer value that was before ecu map change?

If dashboard value is increased it will not show in ecu last programming because i didn't change in ecu only in dashboard?

That is my understanding of how it works.

It is not unusual to have at least one or more reprogrmmings registered. Everytine the Fiat dealer services the car under warranty then there will be updates to the cars systems, ECUs etc that thay will apply. Some of these reprgrammings will not be to neccessarily change engine performance mapping etc. but to tweek/adjust something else. Example a tendancy to stall when cold or any other type of issue.

Thank you for the explanation. Probably some swap dashboard then. I do not know the car's detailed history.
