Graphing spikes

Hi all,
I was using the engine RPM and desired RPM parameters as inputs yesterday to capture this graph:

I was trying to see if my crank sensor was on the way out looking for spikes in the engine RPM - which we can see. However the desired RPM is also spiking which is surprising. I would have thought the desired value is calculated in the ecu so wouldn't be susceptible to this behavior. Is this a bug in MES? A problem with the sampling rate or lag in the plotting?
