Error in ELM or MES?

Hi,
I have my ELM cable (bought from Efuchs) on my "new" Fiat Bravo 198 '07. It gives me the U1601 Error in Engine ECU and a bunch of U17xx errors in body computer.
Today I tried the Alfa/Fiat KKL cable supplied from Efuchs as well. Connecting to ECU and deleting the U1601 without it came back again.
Also using the ELM cable, I got error on steering aid, ASR, the dials did not respond etc.
Is it related to a faulty cable?
