Win XP and KKL Cable

Hi all,

I have had a KKL cable for a while but I have never been able to get it working properly on XP (it works well on my parents Windows 7 PC - plugged it in and away it went). XP seems to be a bit more of a trial though!

I have the VCP drivers from: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

When I plug the cable in it pops in the Device Manager under "Other devices" as "USB2.0-serial".

It has done this on a couple of XP (and a Vista IIRC) laptops that I have tried. The instructions provided by the cable supplier are pretty clear that it should come up in "COM & LPT":

No amount of different ways to install the VCP drivers can get the thing recognised. I am pretty IT literate so this has become very frustrating.

Any ideas on how to solve would be appreciated. Unfortunately my other laptop is a Mac - I have a PC with Win8 but I don't fancy lugging that outside in the rain every time the trusty Alfa JTS throws up a fix me light!!

Many thanks,
Jack

Hello Jack

Since I do not know your laptop, and also do not know your configuration
it's hard to help.

Some laptops have a USB chip in which he usual driver does not work.
For the reason you can only start the time trial and use this driver

Greetings Eddy

Hi Eddy,
Thank you for your help.
I have downloaded that driver (v6.6.1) now and tried it on two XP laptops (one a Dell, the other a LG) - on both the slabvcp.inf fails to install but the silabs bit installs OK.

What do you mean by starting the time trial?

Many thanks,
Jack

Oh I see. Thanks, however it did not recognise the cable yet.
Are there any other vcp drivers that could do the job?
Jack

Hello Jack

Yes, there are unterschiedlliche board and usb chip
it may be that the normal driver does not work.

And since I do not know your fault this is an attempt
whether the usb chip can be on the laptop the error.

Learning by doing

Greetings Eddy

Hy everybody, somebody here yet?

My first problem is the very bad english (sorry)

The second is not function Vag KKL USB (but properly function with ELM327)

1) Interface properly installed like USB-SERIAL CH340 at Device Manager in 2 PCs with XP-SP3 (the same behaviour booth)

2) MES "Scan Interfaces" not found

3) Curiously when Scan Interfaces is running don't appear the port that Vag is installed (like COM4, COM6, COM7...)

4) AND "Interfaces Test" occours:

In COM port that interface is installed (COM8 in this case):
Time out

Another port (COM3 in case):

VagCom/KKL

Testing latency with 200 bytes of data...
Min latency: 9
Max latency: 12

Testing timers...
(The acceptable tolerance for results is ~5 ms)

System supports high resolution timer.

Testing timer with 1000 ms...
..result: 1000 ms

Testing timer with 250 ms...
..result: 314 ms

Testing timer with 750 ms...
..result: 965 ms

Testing timer with 100 ms...
..result: 127 ms

Note: COM3 donĀ“t exists in Device Manager!

Some solution?
