Win XP and KKL Cable
Posted: 12 Jan 2014, 00:04
Hi all,
I have had a KKL cable for a while but I have never been able to get it working properly on XP (it works well on my parents Windows 7 PC - plugged it in and away it went). XP seems to be a bit more of a trial though!
I have the VCP drivers from: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
When I plug the cable in it pops in the Device Manager under "Other devices" as "USB2.0-serial".
It has done this on a couple of XP (and a Vista IIRC) laptops that I have tried. The instructions provided by the cable supplier are pretty clear that it should come up in "COM & LPT":
No amount of different ways to install the VCP drivers can get the thing recognised. I am pretty IT literate so this has become very frustrating.
Any ideas on how to solve would be appreciated. Unfortunately my other laptop is a Mac - I have a PC with Win8 but I don't fancy lugging that outside in the rain every time the trusty Alfa JTS throws up a fix me light!!
Many thanks,
Jack
