2000 Punto 1.2 16v Sporting elm problem

Hi, Brought an elm 327 1.4 and have the free version of the multiecuscan software. When connected it passes all the tests Ok and I can connect to all the functions under the system box - abs, airbag, electric steering, dashboard and body it either connects or says need red adapter or purchased version. But on the engine function it just says no ecu check cables and port settings. But the settings and every thing must be OK to be able to connect to the other functions? Is there a problem with the ECU as I have several problems with the car and need replacing or is there something I'm doing wrong. I have tried it with the key in the mar position and with the engine running. Don't understand if I need to modify the elm unit or if there is a problem elsewhere, any help appreciated.

Hello
What year did your Punto?
If it's not a Grande Punto or Punto EVO, it surprises me very
that you get with your ELM should connect to the airbag
because in the previous Punto can be produced only with the KKL interface to connect to the airbag will not, with the ELM
The unregistered version does not make sense you can in the list Supported Vehicles detect all red notified controllers can only be read with the registered version Multiecuscan

Thanks for your quick response Alfaeddy, are you saying any version in red under the control module box can only be accessed with a licensed version of the multiecuscan software?? if that's true you cant do any diagnostic or get any error codes with the free version of the software.
With all the other modules it came back with you need the purchased version or I needed an adapter but under the engine modules it just kept saying no ecu - check cable or port settings so there is an issue somewhere or it would have said I need the purchased version like the other modules

Hello
What is the Punto 1.2 16V to you?
If you are with the unregistered version can not connect as a registered version is required. (Red-written controls)
This is normally displayed in a frame
If the scan your controls appear you also no error in the port setting or a driver error
One would have to know whether e.g. your airbag control unit is at all to read with the ELM?
Greetings Eddy
Is this your Punto ?

Mine is year 2000 so comes under the 99 1.2 16v category. The test and the scan come back as fine but the scan dtc is greyed out whether its connected or not.

Hello
Now in '99 he Punto produce you can not connect to the ABS or airbags with the ELM interface.
For the ABS and the airbag you need another interface
And the controls that can be read with the ELM you need the registered version of Multiecuscan
Only CAN info can be read with the free version.
have you tested the connection again?
Greetings Eddy

As I have said previously all tests comeback ok on the connection, I can connect to the can info fine and on the others it either says you need the registered version or you need and adapter. But on the engine connection it just says no ecu - check cable or port connections, I thought it would say the same as the rest that I need the registered version. So unsure if its a connection problem or an ecu problem?

Hello
Now that I know what you Punto, I can say
- For your ELM on your Punto you need no adapter
- The Multiecuscan test only tests the CAN protocols
- Your ECU but read about KWP 2000 and has nothing to so with the test
- All you need for controls to be read with the ELM purchased the MES version
- For ABS and airbags you need a KKL interface with adapter or modified
Greetings Eddy

I have brought the software now but still can't connect to the engine module message is - no ecu found - check cables and port settings. But I can connect to Can Info fine and also the other ones under abs, steering etc come back with need red adapter to connect so I am positive everything is set up as it should be, so does this suggest a faulty ecu as it can't be read.
