I have used the free version to diagnose problems on my Alfa phase 2 spider.

Can anybody tell me if the paid for copy would enable me to alter the idle speed.

With the free version, press CTRL-F10 to connect in simulation mode.
This won't actually connect to the car, but if you choose the correct control modules etc, it will show you what adjustments and actuations are available on each controller.
