Hi There

I am new to this forum and indeed the software, I currently have the free version and I am trying to use it to connect via an ELM327 rev 1.4 interface to my recently bought 2001 Punto 1.2 8 valve.

The problem is, having read a huge amount of the posts on the forum I am now more confused than ever. I have been able to connect to the car and monitor the engine ECU. However although it does look like it is connecting to the power steering (using CTRL F10, simulation mode, as I am only using the free version at the moment) I comes up with a message saying that it is the wrong ISO code for the vehicle.

It does display some error codes,P0704,P1555,P0235 but none of them seem to be to do with the power steering. My red power steering light is on in the instrument panel and when driving the car it is very obvious that the power steering doesn't work, as at parking speeds especially it is very heavy.

I want to repair the power steering but want to be sure which part has failed before I buy any bits as they are not too cheap. I had hoped that the multiecuscan software would help me pinpoint the faulty part. Could anyone shed some light on what I am doing wrong, ANY advice would be very much appreciated.

I think the software is great, it's just I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing, especially after reading about having to ground certain pins before it will read the steering, air bags etc, does that apply to my interface unit? I have run the test from the settings menu and everything comes back as OK so I assumed (from yani's post about the problems with some ELM interfaces) this meant it all works, but I am still confused about grounding pins 1,7 and 9, all advice welcomed.

Hi Kelvin,

I am a fellow newbie who has recently been helped via this forum (thanks Eddy). After a few days, I'm now a few steps ahead of where you are now, although no expert!

You cannot read the EPS (Electric Power Steering) ECU with the free version, you will need to buy a licence for E49.95 (£45 at the moment, via paypal). I did and now I know I need a complete column, as I get errors 1005 and 1006, torque and position sensors. If you go to http://multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx and scroll down to Punto 1999, you will see the Delphi Electric Steering typed in red - this means paid for version only.

Running the software in simulation mode is just that - a simulation to illustrate the features you might expect to see if you were connected to you ECU. You are not connected to your ECU in this mode.

To read your EPS ECU, you don't need to ground any pins, your standard ELM327 lead will do........ BUT

If you read my post 'Can connect to engine ECU only', you'll see the tribulations I had because I'd bought a cheap ELM327 from Ebay. I paid £8.75 for a version 1.4 (as opposed to 1.4a or b, or 1.5), and still couldn't read any other ECUs. A common fault on cheap interfaces, apparently. Luckily, Yani had found a solution to this. Don't bother looking at it until you're sure you need it - you may not. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1493

Anyway, your next step is to buy the licence and try your standard cable. You should be able to read your EPS ECU straight away, if not then check out my above link.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post a reply to my query, I had a feeling I might need the full version. I think it is worth the money anyway as the software is very easy to use and pretty powerful.

I had pretty much decided that I am likely to need the whole column anyway after reading loads of posts, so I will be ordering one tomorrow from baa-reman on Ebay seems fair at the price they are down to now £160.00 with lifetime warranty, can't really beat that can you.

I do have the cheap ELM 327 interface from Ebay Ver 1.4 but won't mess with it until I have tried it out with the full version of the software. Once again thanks for taking the time to post, it's very helpful, I'll let you know how I get on over the next few days.
