Hi, my first post at this intersting site.

Am I correct in assuming that I should use either the KL interface cable OR the ELM 327 interface?

How does the ODBKey fit into the scheme of things? I presume it's a software driver.

I'm intending to use it on both my Fiat Punto 1.9 diesel and my Alfa 159 2.4JTDm Sportwagon.

Any help/ suggestions greatly appreciated.

Yes, some vehicle modules require the capabilities of the KKL interface, other modules require the ELM327 interface. So for full coverage you should have both available to you, but you'll only be using one at a time.
See the Supported Vehicles List to check which interfaces you'll actually need for the cars you have.

The OBDKey is an alternative interface - the last time I checked though there weren't any applications supported by the OBDKey which aren't also supported by either the ELM or the KKL, so if you have those 2, you won't need the OBDKey too.

Make sure you shop around on Ebay. The prices (as does quality) vary greatly. I picked up a wired ELM327 and a bluetooth one. The bluetooth doesnt work at all, isnt detected by any device. Not worth the time, effort and $$$'s to send it back, so I scrapped it for parts I'd suggest sticking to the wired ones.
