ecu not responding Fiat Stilo 1.9JTD 2003

Hi I am new to this so forgive my ignorance.
I have the vag com lead (USB - OBDII) which I successfully used to connect to my Audi A4 see images enclosed. When I search for leads it is successfully found and identified as Vag Com lead.
When I try to connect to ECU it tells me no response.
Changed drivers for the FTDI ones.
Disabled wireless connection
I checked made sure all settings on COM port marked those in the FAQ.
scanned the postings and have not found what I am looking for.
The nearest I found seemed to indicate I need to connect into a 3 pin plug on the head near to the ECU? Is this correct cannot go through the plug arrangement I have? if so where do I find the correct wiring arrangement?
Do I need the Vag Com cable with the dip switches or have I completely missed something?
Any guidance gratefully received
Regards
Ian
