Connecting with Tablets

Newbie here. What a great forum!
I need help to connect.
Bought a Windows tablet - Microsoft Surface Go 1.6GHz, 8GB RAM, running Win11. No USB-A socket, only USB-C.
Bought a bunch of coloured connectors and a 'modified' ELM327 OBDII reader (Proscan Automotive).
Bought an OTG USB-A/USB-C adapter and hooked it up to the yellow connector and ELM327 and lappy, but unable to connect.
I suspect the cheapo adapter is preventing connection.
Can anyone recommend a USB-A (female) to USB-C (male) adapter that works for tablets?
Thank you,
Oxy
PS It's a Panda 0.9 Twinair 2012+ (if that makes any difference)
