Latency warnings and scanning rate

I get latency warnings and occasional zeros in the data [ usually only scanning 4 parameters at a time ]. Can I stop this by reducing the scanning rate?
KKL vag-com cable. 2002 Fiat Ducato JTD II 2.0 litre. Lap top 1.8 GHz Pentium with 2 GB SDRAM.
I can edit out the missing points in Excel to get round the downward spikes in the graph.
