Lancia connection problems
Lancia connection problems
Hi to everyone
I am new to this forum and also new to car diagnostics and am possibly making some big mistakes.
I just purchased a KKL cable and 3 pin adapter to fit on my Lancia Kappa 1998 3.0 L with Bosch motronic M3.7.1 ECU.
Having installed everything correctly on my laptop as far as I can see (drivers for USB KKL cable device and ports) the device is showing up and the ports too, but it is not possible to connect to anything in the car. The LED in the KKL device lights up and blinks whilst trying to connect but nothing else happens. The 3 Pin adapter has 2 crocodile clips plus and minus which I have also connected to an external 12 V battery but they make no difference. DotNet framework is also installed.
So can someone please point me in the right direction to get this running.
Thanx
Roy

Re: Lancia connection problems
I think your interface cable 3pin to 16pin is not correct.
Check how the pins are connected.
I made a posting on this subject some days ago. (VAG KKL cable connections page 6)
I' am very interested how you proceed with the lancia diagnostics.
As soon as I receive the VAG interface i will try also to diagnose my Kappa.

Hi
thanks for the reply.
What is the correct wiring for the adapter - do you know it or know where to find out because I can't find it right now

Re: Lancia connection problems
Hi Henk
thank you for the trouble you took.
Unfortuntely I don't know what a few details mean like
/ L GND K / ????
And GND, K and L (how I identify these?)
And how the heck do I get the red clip (which is outside the connector) to go to pin 16
Can someone please put this in plain language for me
Thanks

Re: Lancia connection problems
it is easy:
/ L GND K / ????
L means L line in engine ECU
GND means GROUND or "-" (minus) or negative pole on battery
K means K line in engine ECU
just turn on you laptop
start FES program
connect VAG COM USB to you laptop
connect 3 pin adapter to VAG COM cable
connect 3 pin adapter to you car
connect red clip to "+" (positive pole on battery)
connect black clip to "-" (negative pole on battery or anywhere on body)
put the key in your car and put it in MAR position or start the engine
check Settings on FES program
in General chose your interface type “K-line/VAGCOM” and check Com Port settings
go to KWP2000 Timings and set as default
click OK and then Connect (F10)
Maybe you can not connect immediately on your engine or ABS or AIRBAG ECU but just keep trying and trying and trying!

Re: Lancia connection problems
Hi there in Sarajevo if that is correct - hope things are fine with you
And thank you for these very straightforward instructions. At last I get it!
But where do I find the KWP2000 timings so I can set them to default?

Coded Keys & CODE card for Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia cars
Re: Lancia connection problems
Thank you - but no change.
I went to the garage today and they had the codes out in 5 minutes so at least I know it can be done with my OBD plug.
It would be great to be able to do that myself but this setup I am sending back because it refuses to work at least in this configuration.
I was able to learn a lot thanks to the generosity of people.
If I get another interface to work properly I will post it here so others can benefit too, even if the Lancia K 3.0 is not so common.
Thanks again

Re: Lancia connection problems
I succesfully diagnosed my Lancia Kappa with 2 cheap cablesets and Multiecuscan.
Cableset 1: Fiat 3Pin Connector to 16Pin OBD OBD2 Adapter Cable
-- via EBAY shop Digitalease1023 usd $8.98 incl freight.
Cabbleset 2: VAG-COM409.1 KKL USB OBDII
-- incl. CD rom with driver software.
-- via EBAY shop Itrademall usd $11 incl freight .
Via website Multiecuscan progr. multiecuscan freeware
downloaded and installed.
See directives on website Multiecuscan for installing Multiecuscan and driver and sequence of activities.
These cables work OK without any change. (no soldering etc)
Ecu's for Airbag and ABS have been diagnosed.
Also 3 airbag errors cleared with Function key and no red lamp anymore.
Motor ecu still to be diagnosed but expect no problem.
Success
