you don't have to modify anything.

according to last version (2.5):
-start your computer.
-connect your kkl cable on pc and OBD then turn on your dashboard.
-start Multiecuscan and go to settings window of FES.
-Select K-Line/VAGCOM
-Check box labeled "show available ports only", then try to understand which one is the right port.

how to know that? --> http://www.multiecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx
maybe is shown on Device Manager...
or you could try every port in the list
if something go really wrong (any software crash or whatever) restart windows so you ensure the comunication port is not blocked.

let us know.

;) no hard feelings… ;)

but I would advise you to read first this topic: http://www.multiecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx
in this topic at the end you are going to see that you neet to modify your VAG KKL interface if you want to read your engine ECU, airbag ECU, ABS ECU, EPS ECU, TRW ECU (electric power steering)...

after this I would advise you to read this topic:
go to "Board index < Usage Q&A < VAG KKL cable connections" i think this topic is on page 3
or go to direct link: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=255
in this topic you are going to find how to modify your VAG KKL interface!

any other questions just ask! ;)
Cheers ;)
